Hi,

I am an IIT student. We are studying regarding the smarter energy solutions. I see some two-wheeler vehicals available in market running on battery. We are interested in the vehicals who has battery 48V and 3A and battery type is SLA 48V/20 AH. If we want to charge this vehical completely in 5-6 hours using solar panels, what would be the cost and in what size solar panels will be required? Consider overall environment conditions of india. Give me as much details as possible so I can understand easily. Thank you.

Dear Nilang,

Being an ex-IITian myself, I will let your team work on the project more thoroughly. What I can tell you is that you should estimate the load of the vehicle and then you can use our Solar Calculator (https://sauryaenertech.com/calculator/solar-sizing/) to size the solar system. Further, use this on charge controller calculator.

Look into other similar projects, do look into Tesla Motors.

Finally, remember the shade analysis is crucial for such an installation.

If you have other questions that you are not able to understand via research, let me know.

Hi,
I really appriciate your quick response. I did some research and used your solar calculator and It says size of solar panels for my use should be approx. 210 watts. Many sites says cost of solar panels per watt is approx 60 Rs.I would like to know more about the cost and other maintanance or battery cost involve in this from your side. Again thanx a lot for help.

Nilang, Rs. 60/ watt seems alright although slidghtly on the higher end but it depends upon several factors. Solar panels dont need any maintenance; just a simple clean up of the surfaces from time to time would do. Battery needs to be replaced periodically (Consider: How long does a car battery last?). Have you considered DC to AC conversion (Depending on the vehicle)?

Indeed, we can make parking rooftops with solar panel boards to charge leaving vehicles. For the most part, these days sunlight-based plants are stars to people. Indeed, even in India Government is supporting solar rooftop panels as well. They are Providing Subsidy for the clients. There are most mainstream organizations are accessible. For Example SunEdison one of the Top Companies in India.
